FBI Meets With India Law Enforcement at Embassy in New Delhi Over Bishnoi Extradition

“US Embassy officials met with Indian law enforcement partners to discuss this case, and the Embassy remains in close contact with Indian officials.” confirms US Embassy rep in New Delhi.

Members of the United States’ FBI in New Delhi have met with their counterparts at the US Embassy to discuss the arrest and extradition of Anmol Bishnoi. The Federal Bureau of Investigations has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (India’s INTERPOL Wing) and other agencies to present the evidence for consideration and deliberation in the process. The meeting reportedly was brief at only 45 minutes however both sides say they are keeping in close contact.

Anmol Bushnoi is the younger brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, the leader of the transnational criminal syndicate with reach around the world. Lawrence Bishnoi is currently in an Indian prison and is alleged to be continuing leading his criminal enterprise from that location. It is further alleged that the older Bishnoi brother is also receiving some protections and favor from various political figures in India. This has prevented some Indian states from proceeding with other serious charges which have been filed against Lawrence.

The younger of the brothers, Anmol is alleged to have fled India to the United States in light of several murder charges (FIR) being leveled against him. In earlier reports some news agencies claimed that he went to the United States via Canada but that is no longer being reported as a part of the claims. The charges which Anmol is facing in India include a shooting incident outside of the Mumbai home belonging to Bollywood star, Salmon Khan. Police allege there is audio evidence including Anmol and another member of the Bishnoi gang, Vicky Gupta. The US Embassy has confirmed the meeting stating, “US Embassy officials met with Indian law enforcement partners to discuss this case, and the Embassy remains in close contact with Indian officials.”

He is the subject of other investigations and cases throughout India including the

murder of former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique on October 12, 2024. Indian law enforcement agencies including Police forces of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi, have also expressed interest in determining his role in other criminal operations linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. These include violence, murder, extortion and other crimes.

Anmol is currently in the custody of the United States Immigration Department. Bisnoi was found to be using false documents including a passport under the name “Bhanu” along with other fraudulent paperwork. He reportedly fled India in May of 2022 but was not arrested until November 14, 2024.

It is likely that he will face extradition by the United States back to the custody of the India law enforcement agencies. The worrying twist for India can be the potential information which Anmol can provide the United States government in relation to the ongoing transnational repression by members of the India government on US soil and other countries including Canada and the UK. The Bishnoi gang is suspected of being involved in murders of pro Khalistan activists in addition to violence, extortion and other serious crimes outside of India against members of the Sikh and Hindu diasporas among others. This could provide an opportunity for Bishnoi to make a deal with the United States government in exchange for information and evidence.

Unlike Canada, the United States has had a cooperation agreement with India into foreign interference investigations. This includes the investigation into the foiled assassination plot against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of New York. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is the leader of Sikhs For Justice and leads the international referendum for an independent state of Khalistan. Anyone who speaks out against the Government of India is labeled a terrorist and faces many charges in India. Prime Minister Narender Modi calls it a fringe movement but at the same time seems to be very concerned about the potential of several states wanting to break away and become sovereign nations.
