AMRITSAR The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami on Tuesday took strong notice of statement of Iqbal Lalpura, BJP leader and Chairman of National Commission for Minorities (NCM), of trying to assimilate the Sikh existence with Sanatan and appealed to Jathedar of Akal Takht to take strict action against him as per the Panthic traditions.

In a statement issued here, the SGPC president said, “During an event in Delhi recently, Lalpura has expressed fabricated rhetoric against the principles of Sikh faith and the ideology of the holy Gurbani, which has hurt the uniqueness of the Sikh community and its originality”.

Dhami said, “Lalpura has called Guru Nanak Sahib, an avatar of Hindu god Vishnu, which is his mischievous act to please the top leaders of RSS and BJP. Such rhetoric of Lalpura is grossly disrespectful to the ideology of Gurus and the Sikh community, for which strict action should be taken against him”.

He said that the holy Gurbani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib connects to only one Akal Purakh (One Timeless being) and incarnation has no place in Sikh faith. “Linking of Sikh Gurus with Hindu gods by Lalpura is only part of advancing the agenda of the RSS”, he added.

The SGPC chief said that this is a matter of great concern for the Sikh community, in which the Jathedar of Akal Takht should intervene so that no such anti-Sikh action is taken in the future and the pride of Sikhs as Sui generis, a district entity is not hurt.

Notably, Lalpura had been serving in the Indian intelligence agencies and Indian Police service, before joining the Hindutva extremist party. He allegedly played role against Sikh interests while working for the intelligence agencies.
