Kejriwal’s letter to RSS chief exposes hidden reality of Punjab’s ruling AAP

Hardeep Singh

Arvind Kejriwal’s writing letter to globally notorious Hindu fascist organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has sparked a row in the politics of Indian Union and exposed the hidden reality behind Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founded by him.

First of all, we put light on what he stated in the letter which is a hot topic in the political discourse of India these days.

In the letter which is basically a complaint against the RSS’ A team on political sphere, BJP, he asked whether the Sangh Parivar’s mothership supports the actions of BJP leaders who have allegedly been distributing money to buy votes in Delhi.

Dalits and Purvanchalis are seeing large-scale deletions of their names from Delhi’s voter list, the AAP chief alleged in his letter, asking whether the RSS thinks this is right for democracy. The former Delhi Chief Minister asked Bhagwat whether the RSS endorsed these “wrongdoings” allegedly committed by the BJP.

“There are reports in the media that the RSS will seek votes for the BJP in Delhi elections. Before this, people wanted to know from you if the RSS is supporting the wrongdoings of the BJP in the past few days. Don’t you think that the BJP is weakening Indian democracy like this?” he asked in his letter, which is written in Hindi and dated December 30.

Writing a letter to the RSS chief by the AAP honcho has deep implications. It has strengthened the common perception that the AAP which is ruling in India-administered Punjab as well as Delhi state, is the B team of the extremist force which has scores of branches and wings on every sphere, not only in India, but across the world.

Kejriwal was part of the team of social activist Anna Hazare who staged massive protests against corruption at New Delhi in 2011 in response to exposure of unprecedented financial scams and corruption by the then Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. The protests were also called the “India Against Corruption movement”.

The aim was to press the government to enact a strong and effective Lokpal (Federal Ombudsman) through a Jan Lokpal Bill. Hazare was supported by a clutch of activists and professionals which became popularly known as Team Anna which also included a civil-servant turned activist Arvind Kejriwal.

Soon after the agitation, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat admitted that the RSS had actively participated in the Anna Hazare-led anti-corruption agitation earlier this year.

Addressing swayamsevaks during the customary Vijayadashami function in Nagpur on Thursday, he said, “We actively participate in such agitations which are in the interest of the nation and the people in particular. It was credible people who led the movement and the frustrating conditions exploded into massive support for the recent success of this agitation.”

To encash the response given by the people, Kejriwal along with other activists of Team Anna floated the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

In 2023, a Former National Committee Member of Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption movement made a stunning disclosure: that the 2011 Anna Hazare Movement was allegedly orchestrated by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In an exclusive interview with The News Minute, Chandra Mohan divulged critical details about how the right-wing forces were allegedly behind the protest, which altered the political dynamics of the country and remained a crucial reason behind the downfall of the Congress-led union government. Chandra Mohan made this disclosure on TNM’s Yen Endra Kelvi show.

Anna Hazare’s 2011 movement against corruption and its origins have been the subject of ongoing debate in political circles. The moment helped the BJP craft a strong anti-corruption narrative that brought the party back to power with a thumping majority in the 2014 general elections. Even after nine years, the BJP continues to leverage the anti-corruption narrative to target the opposition.

“In hindsight, everything seems very easy to see. But at that point in time, nobody thought this movement was probably backed by, let’s say, the right-wing, or the Hindutva agenda. We didn’t feel that, but then after time went by, I actually started to question a lot of things in the movement. It started to bother you because even though we had a national core committee, we had representatives in the committee who were openly supporting the BJP,” Mohan added.

Alleging that veteran social activist Anna Hazare is acting on instructions from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Maharashtra-based Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), in 2017, said that his demand for Lokpal after three-and-a-half years of ‘deep slumber’ is nothing but a scripted drama.

It is evident that the sole purpose of Anna’s movement was to bring BJP to power in the centre. Third term of the BJP-led government continues, Anna-like people never raised the issue of corruption during the saffron party regimes.

In June, 2024, Rajasthan then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot accused the BJP-RSS of maligning the atmosphere against the erstwhile UPA government.

“By promoting Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal, the BJP-RSS created an environment against the UPA government. It also defamed the UPA by raising the issues of 2G spectrum, Coalgate etc. Today, no one takes the names of these ‘scams’. Did anyone go to jail? There was so much hue and cry over Lokpal, but it is hardly discussed in the country today. However, government changes in the name of religion,” Gehlot said while addressing an event.

Commenting on Kejriwal’s letter to Sangh Pariwar chief, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit leballed him as a “Sanghi.”

Reacting sharply to Kejriwal’s action, Dikshit told IANS, “I don’t understand the relevance of this letter. A person complaining to his own people or writing to his own people shows his connections. We have always said that Kejriwal has a connection with the Sangh. For this, we use the term ‘Sanghi’.”

Dikshit added that no Congress leader or any leader opposing the RSS’ ideology would write such a letter. “If one has an issue, they should write to the BJP, not the Sangh. The need to write to the RSS arises because he has always seen the ‘Sangh’ standing with him. It’s well known that during the anti-corruption movement, the Sangh supported it entirely. Today, the real colour of Kejriwal has come out,” Dikshit said.

Even though the Kejriwal-led party has remained part of INDIA block which is led by Congress, it has always promoted ideology of the RSS and BJP.

During the 2022 Punjab assembly elections, the AAP took out ‘Tiranga Yatra’and ‘Shanti March’ processions in Punjab. BJP is known for these kinds of activities which are aimed at promoting ultra-nationalism, pseudo patriotism and anti-minority sentiments. Like BJP leaders, Kejriwal was seen enchanting slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. As per the political observers, the RSS has introduced its B team with secular credentials to eliminate Congress so that it could establish its total control over the polity of India. Kejriwal’s communication with Mohan Bhagwat has made it clearer.

Policy of Kejriwal in matters of minorities like Sikhs and Muslims is no different from RSS-BJP. His party and government have always favoured the fascism of RSS. It openly supported the BJP government’s move abrogating section 370 of Indian constitution that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
