Sikhs remember Bhai Dilawar Singh at Akal Takht on 29th martyrdom day

AMRITSAR Members of the Sikh community on August 31 remembered sacrifice of Bhai Dilawar Singh at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on his 29th Shahidi Dihara (martyrdom day). 

Bhai Dilawar Singh became human bomb to end the tyrannical rule in Punjab in 1995 by assassinating the then Chief Minister Beant Singh who massacred thousands of Sikh youths in fake-encounters and other extra-judicial methods including enforced disappearances on pretext of rooting out militancy, at Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh. 

To commemorate his great sacrifice, a Sikh function was organized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) along with other Sikh bodies at the highest Sikh temporal seat. After bhog (concluding ceremony) of Akhand Paatth (uninterrupted recitation of Guru Granth Sahib), Gurbani Kirtan was sung by the traditional gurbani musicians.   

On the occasion, a rich tribute was paid by Sri Darbar Sahib granthi Giani Balwinder Singh to Bhai Dilawar Singh who is entitled as “Qaumi Shaheed” (national martyr) in the Sikhs. 

Pertinently, a written message of former militant leader and Babbar Khalsa International chief Bhai Wadhawa Singh Babbar was also read out during the function. Message of Sikh prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara who also accompanied Dilawar Singh in assassination of the cruel ruler, was also read out. 

Giani Balwinder Singh and Sri Darbar Sahib manager Bhagwant Singh honoured Dilawar Singh’s brother Chamkaur Singh with siropa (robe of honour). 

Leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Dal Khalsa, Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala were also present on the occasion.
